old Berlin recipe

Pierce the sausages and fry in a little fat until golden brown, but not quite done. Remove the sausages from the pan. In the same pan, sauté the onion until translucent. Deglaze with beer and malt beer. Reduce the heat to low. Tear the gravy cake into small pieces, add the juniper berries and bay leaves. Continue to simmer, stirring constantly, until the gravy cake has dissolved. Pour the gravy through a colander into another pot (frying pan). Season with salt and pepper. Add the sausages to the gravy and let them simmer until cooked through. Tastes best with fried potatoes or mashed potatoes, but also with blue or white cabbage.
