Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 rolls, stale
  • 250 ml milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 50 g powdered sugar
  • 100 g raisins
  • 500 g apple
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 5 tbsp sugar
  • 50 g butter, in flakes
  • Butter for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 50 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 15 minutes

Austrian pastry

Slice the rolls. Whisk the eggs with milk, powdered sugar, and salt, and soak the rolls in the butter until they’ve absorbed the liquid. Meanwhile, peel the apples and slice them thinly. Butter a baking dish and line the bottom with rolls. Add a layer of apple slices, sprinkle with a few raisins and a mixture of cinnamon and granulated sugar, then another layer of rolls. Continue this process until all the rolls are used up. The top layer should be rolls. Spread the butter in small pieces over the surface. Bake the pyre in a preheated oven at 180°C for about 40-50 minutes.
