Quick American-style pizza dough

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 2 packs of dry yeast, or 1 cube of fresh yeast
  • 500 g wheat flour or spelt flour
  • 250 ml water, lukewarm
  • ½ cup oil, approx. 75 ml
  • 1 tbsp salt, approx.
  • 1 tbsp cane sugar, or honey, approx.
  • possibly grated cheese

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

In a large mixing bowl, add the yeast to 250 ml of lukewarm water and stir in about 1 tablespoon of sugar or honey. It’s not necessarily the amount of sugar and salt you add that matters, but rather that the amounts of these two ingredients are balanced, so always use equal amounts of sugar and salt! Once the yeast has completely dissolved and perhaps already forms a light head of foam, mix the dry ingredients with the yeast mixture and the oil, add about 1 tablespoon of salt, and knead everything well. Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, then knead again and roll out to the desired thickness, leaving the edges a little thicker. Tip for further processing: Place the pizza base on a greased or parchment-lined baking tray and add as many toppings as you like. Bake the pizza at 200 degrees Celsius (top/bottom heat) or 175 degrees Celsius (fan oven) for about 15-20 minutes. Extra tip for cheese lovers: Roll out the dough thinly around the edges, spread grated cheese on it, then fold the edge over the grated cheese and press it down firmly. This creates a delicious, cheese-filled dough border that tastes great with Hawaiian pizza, for example!
