Red wine soup, grandma's style

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 ml water
  • 1 stalk(s) cinnamon
  • 2 cloves
  • 40 g rice or sago
  • 500 ml red wine
  • 75 g sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Bring the water to a boil with the cinnamon and cloves, sprinkle in the washed rice or sago, stir, and let it swell over low heat. Pour in the wine, season with sugar, and heat until just before boiling (do not let it boil). Serve the soup warm or cold, as desired, and garnish with soup macaroons or rusk cubes. Note: Rice cooks for 20-25 minutes; sago cooks for 10-15 minutes.
