Rice and minced meat casserole with garlic

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 250 g rice
  • 500 g minced meat
  • 500 g tomatoes, chopped, from the can
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • 200 g crème fraîche
  • 300 ml vegetable stock
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 3 onions
  • 200 g cheese, grated
  • oregano
  • nutmeg
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 50 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 20 minutes

Peel the onions and garlic. Finely dice the onions, chop or press the garlic. Heat the oil in a pan and add the onions, garlic, and minced meat. Fry the minced meat until crumbly. Add the tomato pieces. Season with nutmeg, pepper, and salt. Add the stock. Bring to a boil. Add the rice and simmer for 10 minutes. Transfer the rice and minced meat casserole to a baking dish and place in the oven (do not preheat it). Preheat the oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat). Bake for 30 minutes. In the meantime, mix the cheese and crème fraîche. Season with salt and pepper. After 30 minutes, spread the cheese mixture over the rice and minced meat casserole and bake for another 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted and golden brown.
