Rice pudding with mulled wine cherries

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 1 liter of milk
  • 250 g rice pudding
  • 100 ml maple syrup
  • 2 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 large jar of sour cherries, approx. 720 ml
  • 470 ml mulled wine
  • 30 ml Amaretto
  • 3 tbsp, heaped sugar
  • 2 ½ tbsp, heaped cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 50 minutes

Prepare the rice pudding according to the package instructions. Add the salt while cooking. Stir in the maple syrup and cinnamon at the end. Drain the sour cherries. Place the mulled wine, Amaretto, lemon juice, sugar, and cornstarch in a small saucepan and stir until the starch has dissolved. Bring the mixture to a boil while stirring. Once the color has changed from milky pink to clear red, reduce the heat and add the cherries. Now just wait a moment until the cherries have warmed through. Sprinkle the rice pudding with a little cinnamon and serve with the hot mulled wine cherries.
