  • 1 bottle of rum, preferably high-proof

Instructions

Rumtopf traditional

Wash the fruit thoroughly, dry it thoroughly, and clean it. Then place it in a suitable container (there are special clay containers for this purpose) that is opaque and has a tight seal. Sprinkle with the sugar and pour in enough rum to cover the fruit. Add the vanilla pod. Every two weeks (or once a month), add another type of fruit, half the amount of sugar, and pour in the high-proof rum. Add the last of the fruit in October and let the rum pot rest until December. The flavor is incomparable, and the fruit tastes great on ice cream, pudding, or with pan-fried dishes.
