Sauerkraut – Simple, Tasty and Very Good

The perfect sauerkraut – simple, tasty and very good recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 1 kl. Can Sauerkraut drained – 520 g
  • 2 tablespoon Sunflower oil
  • 70 g Ham cubes
  • 2 Onions in strips
  • 7 Juniper berries squeezed
  • 1 teaspoon Caraway seeds
  • 2 Bay leaves
  • 50 ml Vegetable broth
  1. Fry the diced ham and onion strips in the heated oil until they are translucent but do not brown. Then add the juniper berries, caraway seeds and bay leaves, sweat briefly and add the drained sauerkraut, slightly torn apart.
  2. Add the vegetable stock, mix everything well with a fork, put a lid on and cook on a mild heat for about 40 minutes.
  3. Everything goes with it, what you like … we enjoyed the sauerkraut today with a potato snow and Schäufele **.
  4. The recipe for the Schäufele can be found here in my cookbook: Schäufele – always happy …
