Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 500 g flour
  • 1 tsp, heaped baking powder
  • 100 g sugar
  • 4 drops of rum flavoring
  • 4 drops flavoring (lemon oil)
  • 3 eggs
  • 4 tbsp milk
  • 125 g butter
  • 1 stalk(s) vegetable fat for frying
  • 100 g powdered sugar

Carnival pastries from the Kratzbande

Blend the first 8 ingredients into a smooth dough, then roll out wafer-thin pieces in batches. The thinner, the better. Cut each strip of dough into 1 cm wide and 2 cm long strips. Make a small slit in the middle with a knife, and pull one end of the strip through this slit, twisting the dough into itself. Fry the strips in oil until lightly browned, then place them on some kitchen paper or in a sieve to cool. Once cooled, dust generously with powdered sugar.
