Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 6 rolls, stale
- 6 eggs
- 400 ml milk, hot
- 1 m.-sized onion(s)
- salt and pepper
- marjoram
- Clarified butter
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 5 minutes
Slice the rolls and pour the hot milk over them. Cover and let them soften. The milk should be completely absorbed. Then add the eggs and the finely chopped onion, which was previously sautéed in a little clarified butter, to the bread mixture and mix well. Season with salt, pepper, and marjoram. Heat the clarified butter in a pan and add the mixture to a thickness of about 2 cm. Cook until golden brown on both sides. Serve with a large bowl of green salad, or endive or lamb’s lettuce in winter. Tip: If you have any leftover ham or bacon cubes, you can also add them to the bread mixture.
