Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 750 g schnitzel meat (pork) cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 large onions, peel, cut into eighths and cut in half twice
  • 250 ml tomato ketchup and 250 ml spice ketchup
  • 200 g bacon, streaky, preferably lean, cut into thin strips
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch(s) of cayenne pepper or paprika, whichever you prefer
  • Water

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Fry the bacon in a pan until crispy. Remove from the fat and set aside. Lightly brown the meat in the rendered fat. Then add the ketchup and a little water (the sauce shouldn’t be too thick, or it will burn). Simmer over low heat for about 1 hour and 10 minutes, then add the onions and sauté until they are still firm to the bite. Season to taste and stir in the bacon just before serving. This also works great in a pressure cooker. Serve with baguette or rice.
