Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 liter of milk
  • 100 g sugar
  • 1 vanilla pod(s)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 3 hours

Snow dumplings, Croatian dessert made from eggs

For the vanilla sauce, separate the eggs. Whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and cornstarch, perhaps with a splash of milk. Heat the milk and vanilla pod in a saucepan, then remove from the heat. Add the egg mixture and cook over medium-low heat until stiff, then chill. For the snow dumplings, beat the egg whites until stiff and add a spoonful at a time to a pan of hot (but not boiling) water until firm on both sides. This process takes no longer than 30 seconds. Then skim off the excess liquid with a sieve and transfer it to a bowl. Pour the sauce over the snow dumplings and chill for at least 2 hours.
