Side Dish: Grapes – Sauerkraut with Smoked Bacon and Onions
The perfect side dish: grapes – sauerkraut with smoked bacon and onions recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
- 1,5 kg Sauerkraut
- 3 piece Bay leaves
- 1 tbsp Vegetable broth powder
- Homemade
- 300 g Diced smoked bacon
- 4 medium sized Diced onions
- 1 size Cup of grapes
- Cored and halved
- 0,5 liter Apple juice
- Put the sauerkraut in the wok, pour the vegetable stock over it and pour the apple juice on it, close with a lid and bring to the boil.
- In the meantime, I’ve washed and pitted the grapes. Then add these to the sauerkraut, add the bay leaves and let them cook.
- Now cut the bacon … and peel the onions … in the meantime the bacon can be left out in the pan … then cut the onions into small pieces and add to the bacon, sear everything well and add to the sauerkraut . Stir well and let cool down on the balcony overnight.
- If you like, you can season with salt & pepper, my vegetable stock is spicy enough and so I don’t have to season much.
- Tip 5: I made the sauerkraut the day before, then I was allowed to sleep on the balcony ;-))) Sauerkraut just tastes better when it goes through the night.
