Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 1 kg wheat flour type 550
  • 5 tbsp oil, neutral
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 cube of yeast
  • 500 ml water, warm
  • egg yolk
  • poppy

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 2 hours 55 minutes

a MUST on every Shabbat evening

Let the yeast, sugar, and water prove for 15 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and knead for 5 minutes (in a food processor). Let it prove for another hour, knead again, and let it prove for another 30 minutes. Then knead again and form a large plait (or two small ones). Brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with poppy seeds. Bake for approximately 30 minutes at 200°C (top/bottom heat).
