Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes
A treat that is perfect for camp cooking, scouts or children’s activities
Remove the hard shells from the beechnuts and roast them in a metal sieve (stainless steel or similar) over the fire, just make sure they are not smoking too much, shaking and swirling constantly (if you like, you can also roughly chop the roasted beechnuts). Melt the butter in a pan over the fire, add the sugar and heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sugar melts and turns brown, i.e. caramelizes. Now add the toasted beechnuts and a dash of cream and stir for a few more minutes. Place the mixture on a previously cleaned, dry and greased flat stone (if you have one) or in a greased pan, smooth it out and allow it to set. Once set, break it into pieces. Note: If you don’t want to use beechnuts, you can also use nuts such as hazelnuts, walnuts or almonds.
