Sour cherry liqueur

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 1,250 g sour cherries
  • 1 liter of water
  • 350 g sugar
  • 2 packets of vanilla sugar
  • 1 small bottle(s) of bitter almond flavoring
  • 700 ml rum (54%) or 1 liter vodka (40%)

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

cooked version

Boil the washed sour cherries (they don’t need to be pitted!) with the water for about 30 minutes. Then let them cool and steep. Strain the mixture through a cheesecloth and press down well. Bring the cherry juice to a boil with the sugar and vanilla sugar. Once the mixture has cooled, stir in the rum or vodka. The liqueur can be flavored to taste with the bitter almond oil. The liqueur is then ready to drink and can be bottled. Tip: You can experiment with the type of alcohol and amount of sugar. 500g of sugar makes the liqueur quite sweet, while 350g of sugar and vodka make it a bit more sour and drinkable. You can always add more sweetness.
