My basic recipe for particularly flavorful hamburger patties, including a few tips for the final burger topping.

The finely chopped onion is mixed with the ground meat. Add salt and pepper (preferably coarsely ground) to taste, along with a few tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce. After kneading thoroughly, the individual patties are formed. These should be no more than 1 cm thick and at least as large in diameter as the buns they will be placed on – the patties will shrink considerably during frying. The patties are seared on both sides in hot oil and then cooked thoroughly. They can be easily kept warm in the oven at around 120°C for quite some time. The burger itself can be assembled according to your taste: hamburger buns with or without sesame seeds, fresh vegetables (e.g., lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pepperoni, onions), various sauces (e.g., ketchup, mayonnaise, mustard, barbecue sauce), cheese – anything goes! And it’s especially fun when you simply place the individual ingredients on the table in small bowls, allowing everyone to assemble their own burger the way they like best. Side dishes are hardly necessary, but French fries or a light salad are generally a good addition.
