Steamed White Cabbage
The perfect steamed white cabbage recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.
- 500 g White cabbage (small half head)
- 1 Onion approx. 50 g
- 2 tbsp Lard
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Whole caraway seeds
- 200 ml Water
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
- 1 tbsp Light rice vinegar
- Clean the white cabbage, cut out the stem and cut everything into fine strips. Peel and dice the onion. Heat the lard (2 tbsp) in a high pan and fry the onion cubes vigorously. Add the cut white cabbage and season with salt (1 teaspoon) and whole caraway (1 teaspoon). Fry everything for 5 – 6 minutes / stir fry. Pour in the water and let everything simmer / boil with the lid closed for about 10 minutes. Dust with flour (1 tbsp) and season with sugar (1 teaspoon), vinegar (2 tbsp) and let everything simmer / simmer for another 5 minutes. The steamed white cabbage is a typical side dish for roast pork with dumplings. You can also freeze the steamed white cabbage in advance.
