Storing Radishes to Keep Them Crunchy For Longer

Store radishes in the crisper

Radishes are a very healthy, zesty, slightly hot, and tasty vegetable.

  • However, the small tubers quickly lose their bite if they are not stored properly.
  • The best place to store fresh radishes is in the crisper drawer of your fridge.
  • Cut the leaves and roots off radishes immediately after purchase. Then more water stays in the tubers, which keeps the radishes crunchy.
  • If you have an airtight storage container on hand, put the radishes in before you put them in the crisper.
  • Stored this way, radishes will retain their crispness for two to three days.

Freeze radishes as an alternative

If you freeze radishes, the vegetables will keep much longer.

  • Radishes keep freshly frozen for about six months.
  • However, radishes lose a lot of their crispness in the freezer. So it is better to enjoy the vegetables as fresh as possible.
  • Tip: If you cut or grate radishes finely into the salad, you will need far fewer onions and can thus enjoy as many fresh radishes as possible at the same time. This is a good alternative, especially for people who do not tolerate onions well.
