Sweet potato mash

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 2 large sweet potatoes
  • 2 large potatoes, mainly waxy or floury
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 100 ml milk
  • 1 small pepper, or chili powder/cayenne
  • salt and pepper
  • Cinnamon, ground
  • nutmeg

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

The recipe is just as simple as regular mashed potatoes, but more sophisticated. Peel and dice the sweet potatoes and potatoes, then boil in lightly salted water for about 15-20 minutes. Add the sweet potatoes about 5 minutes later, as they cook faster. Once cooked, drain the cooking water and mash the potatoes with a masher (not a blender, as it will become slimy). Add the butter and milk and mash until the mash reaches the desired consistency. Split the peppers, remove the seeds, and finely chop them, then stir them into the mash. If you don’t want to use fresh peppers, use ground chili or cayenne pepper. Season to taste with salt, pepper, nutmeg, and a tiny(!) pinch of cinnamon. The mash goes perfectly with orange-flavored duck. It also makes a great side dish for other poultry dishes.
