Ingredients for 8 servings:
- 500 ml ketchup (hot)
- 200 ml apple cider vinegar
- 50 g applesauce
- 250 g beet syrup
- 1 onion(s)
- 3 cloves garlic
- 4 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 tbsp paprika powder, sweet
- 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp smoked salt
- 1 tbsp black pepper
- olive oil
Instructions
Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes
for marinating, dipping, with meat, potatoes and much more!
Chop the onion and sauté in a little olive oil until translucent. Add the chopped garlic and sauté briefly (don’t let it brown!). Add the hot ketchup, apple cider vinegar, applesauce, and sugar beet syrup and bring to a boil. Stir in the remaining ingredients and simmer for 30-60 minutes, depending on the desired consistency. If you don’t like chunks in the sauce, you can of course simply puree it at the end. It goes perfectly with grilled meat, steaks, as a marinade for spare ribs, or as a ketchup substitute for French fries, potato wedges, baked potatoes, etc. Tip: If you like it spicier, you can also add chopped jalapeños or chipotles. For the latter, use less smoked salt and regular salt instead. To round it off, you can also add a few pieces of dark chocolate to the sauce. Then reduce the sugar content a little.
