The Perfect Coffee – Tips for the Preparation

Spread the love

“The ideal preparation of coffee is something that can only be achieved by professionals. In the home, a machine can do the best.” Many think so. However, that is not true. Anyone can brew coffee manually at home. It’s even cheaper and usually tastier than coffee from the machine.

Coffee Preparation – Manual at home

Regardless of the method you use to prepare the coffee, there are two fundamental factors to consider: The quality of the raw materials. This means the quality of the coffee and the quality of the water. Basically, you should use water for making coffee that contains little lime. Water with different minerals tastes different. A difference in taste is particularly noticeable in different types of water.

  • If it has to be quick and easy, the tried-and-tested coffee filter method is a very good choice. With the right filter holder and a filter, you only need two more things: hot water and coffee. Pour the coffee into 96-degree hot water. Always pour some water in the middle first and then swirl the filter so that the water penetrates all the way through the coffee. This gives the coffee the opportunity to swell.
  • This method is particularly suitable for coffee that has a light roast and tastes fruity and sour. When it comes to dosing, you can remember a very simple dosing principle: 10 grams of coffee to 100ml of water.
  • Depending on your preference, you’ll quickly find out what the perfect amount of coffee is for you.
  • Do not be afraid that making coffee involves a little effort and manual work. This is exactly what makes the right coffee so tasty. Making coffee can become a meditation for you. With a lot of practice, you will soon achieve skillful movements and establish a certain routine.
  • A mistake that often happens to many coffee makers is that the water temperature is much too high. At a temperature above 96 degrees Celsius, many aromas are destroyed. Therefore, make sure that you do not use boiling water when brewing coffee, but wait for a little while until the water has cooled down a bit.
  • If your coffee gets cold far too quickly, the following tip might help you: fill your cup with hot water beforehand and wait until your cup has warmed up. This keeps the heat in the coffee longer.
  • Alternatively, if you add milk, you can take it out of the fridge earlier and let it warm up to room temperature.

Other methods of preparing coffee

You don’t have to be a barista to make your own coffee at home. The easiest method when using coffee makers is the French Press. It is also a very inexpensive method.

  • French Press: Coffee is infused with hot water in a French Press. Getting it wrong is almost impossible. After a short brewing time, the coffee is pressed down with the help of the sieve integrated into the pot. In the best case, this leaves little or no coffee particles.
  • Fully automatic coffee machine: A fully automatic coffee machine will certainly make your life easier. Often the purchase is expensive, which needs to be well considered. In principle, nothing speaks against a fully automatic machine. However, you have to invest the time that you save in making coffee in the maintenance of the machine.
  • It is important that the coffee for this method is not ground too finely. The water should not be hotter than 96 degrees either. One of the most common mistakes coffee drinkers make is that they choose not to fill the pot and only brew a little coffee. However, this is not advisable because the coffee quality suffers.
  • Espresso maker: Another option is to use an espresso maker. If you want a strong Italian coffee, this is the best way to get your beloved espresso. Water is heated in the lower part of the espresso maker. The steam is pushed through the coffee, which is in a sieve above the water. The coffee collects at the top.
  • Coffee pod machines: If possible, do not use a capsule machine. The aluminum capsules pollute the environment. Alternatives are machines that use coffee pods. The coffee is sealed in a filter paper bag. The downside is that the flavor is better preserved in capsules. When freshly prepared without a machine, the aroma is also well preserved.
