Instructions
Working time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 30 minutes
simple, quick, crispy
You’ll also need 20 small pieces of paper with sayings. Preheat the oven to 190°C. First, beat the egg whites with the sugar using a hand mixer until the sugar has dissolved (the egg whites should not be stiff, but rather creamy/frothy). Next, add the melted and cooled butter, any flavorings, food coloring, and water. Now just stir in the flour until a smooth batter forms. Now it’s time to bake: Place about 1 – 1 1/2 teaspoons of batter per circle onto the baking sheet and smooth it out (if you like, draw about 8 cm circles on a sheet of baking paper, which you then turn over again for baking). Bake the cookies for about 5 minutes. Please keep an eye on them; it may take less or longer depending on your oven. The edges should be lightly browned. I recommend baking only 3 circles at a time, as the cookies cool very quickly and would otherwise break. You have to be quick at this point. Place a small piece of paper with a saying in the center of each circle and place one half on top of the other. Place the folded edge on the rim of a glass, for example, and fold it down. Place the cookies in a muffin tin to cool, so they retain their typical shape. Tip: I used a silicone mat for baking; it doesn’t curl during baking, and you get beautiful, even cookies. This makes about 18-20 fortune cookies. This recipe makes delicious, crispy fortune cookies. You can vary the flavor and color to your liking.
