Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 1 ring/s sausage (ham or hunting sausage)
- 1 large onion(s)
- 100 g butter or margarine
- 4 tbsp flour
- 1 tube(s) Tomato paste
- 1 liter of water
- 2 tbsp vinegar
- 1 ½ tbsp sugar
- salt and pepper
Instructions
Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes
like from a GDR holiday camp
Cut the sausage and onions into small cubes. Heat the butter in a saucepan, add the flour, and stir until lightly browned. Slowly add the water, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Bring to a boil briefly, then add the sausage and onion cubes, followed by the tomato paste. If you like, you can first fry the sausage and onion cubes briefly in a separate pan or sauté them until translucent. Mix everything well, add the vinegar and sugar, and season with salt and pepper. It goes well with pasta. I remember this sauce from my mother, who worked as a cook in a holiday camp in the former GDR.
