Turmeric and Ginger Against Inflammation: How to Use the Remedies Correctly

Turmeric and ginger work against inflammation. Both tubers have been known for thousands of years in both Indian and traditional Chinese medicine and help against a variety of ailments. The anti-inflammatory effect is just one of them.

Turmeric and ginger against inflammation – this is how they work

Both tubers contain pungent substances. In ginger it is the gingerols, in turmeric it is the curcumin.

  • Curcumin has been shown to inhibit inflammation. Inflammation, which runs chronically in our body for years, is one reason for an increased risk of having a heart attack, Alzheimer’s or cancer. If you take precautions and regularly remove all sources of inflammation from your body, you can reduce the risk of these diseases.
  • Turmeric also has an antioxidant effect. This means that it scavenges free radicals in our body, helping to protect cells from these harmful molecules. This also lowers the risk of cancer. According to study results, the production of antioxidants in the human body is promoted by curcumin.
  • In high doses, turmeric contributes to the fact that cancer cells can even die . A lot of research is currently being done in this area. The only downside to this is that turmeric has very low bioavailability. Substances such as piperine from pepper can increase this, but high doses of piperine cause abdominal pain.
  • According to studies, turmeric even helps against psoriasis . Test subjects who regularly took large amounts of turmeric were able to significantly improve their state of health with the help of turmeric.

Ginger – this effect has the tuber

Ginger is also anti-inflammatory. Ginger is especially good for:

  • Ginger is a spice root with a very powerful effect, especially against inflammation . Ginger boosts the metabolism, has an antibacterial and antiviral effect. Ginger is therefore very effective, especially for colds and illnesses caused by bacteria and viruses.
  • Ginger is also effective against dizziness, nausea and vomiting . The tuber contains many minerals and trace elements and has a detoxifying effect. You can use ginger to warm you up and boost your immune system.
  • Last but not least, ginger also helps with inflammation in the mouth and throat. The essential oils, which have a pain-relieving effect, are responsible for this. On the other hand, ginger contains gingerol, which is antibacterial and antiviral and is therefore excellent against viruses when you have a cold.

Use ginger and turmeric as home remedies

Ginger and turmeric are well-known spices. You can experiment yourself and try the two tubers in different dishes and regularly incorporate them into your diet.

  • For example, you can prepare a ginger shot yourself and ideally supplement the recipe with turmeric. You can take the ginger shot every morning – if possible on an empty stomach – to prevent colds, among other things.
  • You can also make a turmeric ginger tea. For this you need a teaspoon each of ginger and turmeric powder or a few slices of the fresh bulbs. Pour the ingredients in a cup of boiling water and allow to cool. If you want a milder taste, you can add some juice.
  • Golden milk is also a classic for a recipe that includes ginger and turmeric. To do this, slowly boil 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder with 15 grams of fresh ginger in about 100ml of water. A paste is formed. Then boil up about 300ml almond milk separately and stir in as much of the ginger-turmeric paste as you like.
  • Make sure your diet contains enough omega-3 fatty acids to actively fight inflammation. A high amount of omega-3 fatty acids is contained in fish, linseed or rapeseed oil. When choosing fish, however, you should make sure that the fish comes as wildly caught as possible.
