Verbena tea and its effects
Except for its wound-healing properties, the effect of verbena has not yet been clinically confirmed. The tea is also said to help with these ailments:
- Problems in the mouth and throat area such as sore throat and inflammation
- Help with asthma, cough, or other respiratory diseases
- Liver, kidney, and gallbladder diseases
- menopausal symptoms
- Milk-promoting effect in lactating women
- Rheumatism and rheumatic complaints

However, vervain also has various side effects. The maximum duration of use is therefore one week.
- The daily dose should not exceed 3 cups of verbena tea. Excessive consumption leads to nausea and vomiting.
- Avoid the tea during pregnancy as it can induce labor.
- If you suffer from an underactive thyroid, the use of verbena is also not recommended.
Drug interactions are not known. - The side effect of verbena has not been sufficiently scientifically proven either. Therefore, you should consult your doctor before self-medication.
Prepare verbena tea yourself
The tea can be used in different ways. The maximum duration of use is one week.
- To drink, pour 2 teaspoons of verbena or a tea bag with 250 ml of boiling water. After 5 to 10 minutes, strain the tea.
- If you want to use the herb as a mouthwash, take 4 teaspoons of the dried leaves or 2 tea bags and pour 250 ml of hot water over them. Allow the rinse to stand for 10 to 12 minutes before passing it through a sieve. Use the conditioner when it is lukewarm.
- If you suffer from anemia, boil 1 tablespoon of verbena in 1/2 liter of water for 15 minutes. Strain the drink and drink it throughout the day. You can sweeten it with honey.
