Eating processed meat every day increases the risk of developing dementia by 44 percent. This is reported by the Daily Express portal with reference to a study by British scientists from the University of Leeds.
The researchers analyzed a database that contained information on the health and genetic characteristics of about 500 thousand people aged 40 to 69 years.
Over eight years of observation, scientists have recorded 2896 cases of acquired dementia. In addition, most of the study participants smoked and did not exercise at all. Such people also had relatives who suffered from the disease.
According to the researchers, the increased risk of developing dementia from processed meat was the same regardless of a person’s genetic predisposition. It turned out that even daily consumption of a bacon or sausage sandwich can increase the likelihood of dementia by 44% in the future.
