simply

Grease a baking dish with butter and spread one-third of the cooked pasta on the bottom of the dish. Season with salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper. Then spread half of the ham on each layer and cover with another third of the pasta. Season again and sprinkle with the remaining ham. Cover the dish with the remaining pasta and season one last time. Only add a little seasoning at a time, as the seasoning is distributed throughout the dish, and the ham also releases salt. Whisk the eggs with the cream, season with salt, pepper, and cayenne pepper, and pour over the casserole. Sprinkle the grated cheese on top and dot with butter. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the casserole for about 60 minutes. The cheese layer should be golden brown and crispy. Serve with a delicious salad or a simple homemade tomato sauce. Mozzarella is also delicious for topping.
