Herring with Jacket Potatoes

The perfect herring with jacket potatoes recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 3 Matjes herrings
  • 100 g Greek yogurt 10% fat
  • 2 tablespoon Creme fraiche Cheese
  • 2 tablespoon Mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon Freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon Pickled cucumber stock
  • 1 Onion
  • 1 Pickled cucumber
  • 1 Bit of Apple
  • Chive rolls
  • Pink pepper
  1. Rinse the herring fillets with cold water and pat dry again with kitchen paper; Cut the onion in half into strips, dice the pickles and apples.
  2. Mix yoghurt, crème fraiche, mayonnaise, lemon juice and cucumber stock into a smooth marinade. Fold in onion strips, cucumber and apple cubes and season with pepper, salt and sugar to taste.
  3. Layer the marinade alternately with the herring fillets in a serving bowl, finish with the marinade and leave everything covered in the refrigerator to steep (preferably overnight).
  4. The next day only cook fresh jacket potatoes and serve with the herring garnished with chives rolls and pink pepper. This is a popular Friday meal with us.
