Juicy snacks, still popular with young and old today – were already around in the 1950s!

Separate the bread slices, which are usually stuck together, with a knife. Spread the first slice of bread generously with the selected spread, place a slice of cheese on top as precisely as possible, spread the second slice of bread and place the spread side down on the cheese slice, pressing it down lightly. Now spread the surface again and top with cheese. Stack the bread and cheese slices in this way, ending each slice with a slice of bread. You can stack 4-5 slices of bread with sliced cheese in between, depending on how high you want the bites to be; they should still be easy to bite into. Trim any excess cheese slices from the edges of the finished bread and cheese stack, cut the block into irregular triangles with a sharp knife, and arrange as desired. It looks great on cheese platters, perhaps placed on fresh green lettuce leaves. You can also add pretzel sticks or skewer them – that’s how they were decorated back then. Tip: You can easily cut the sliced cheese into pieces when adding toppings to get it to the right size – it won’t even be noticeable when the pieces are finished.
