French onion soup

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 3 large onions
  • 100 g butter
  • 350 ml beef broth
  • 1 tsp herbs de Provence
  • 3 pinches of caraway powder
  • salt and pepper
  • 4 slices of toast
  • 100 g cheese, grated (Gouda)

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

very simple and without wine

Peel the onions and slice them into rings. Melt the butter in a saucepan and fry the onions until light brown. Pour in the broth and season with herbs and spices. Toast the bread. Ladle the soup into ovenproof bowls, carefully float a slice of bread on top, and scatter the cheese on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F) for about 10 minutes, until the cheese is melted.
