Sinangag – fried rice with garlic

Spread the love

Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 3 cup(s) basmati rice or jasmine rice
  • 6 garlic cloves, chopped
  • ½ tsp salt
  • vegetable oil

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Philippine garlic rice

Cook the rice and let it cool. I use a rice cooker; the rice cooker cups hold about 150 ml. Ideally, you should use leftover rice from the day before. Heat the oil in a pan and add the finely chopped garlic. Fry the garlic for a few minutes, being careful not to burn it. Once the garlic is lightly browned, add the rice, season with salt, and continue frying for a few minutes until the rice reaches the desired consistency. Tip: Many people also press the garlic so there are no chunks in it, or do what my mother does: she just crushes the garlic clove and fry it, then removes it whole later.
