Gerry's stewed pear

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 2 bulb(s)
  • Water
  • 100 ml cider
  • 1 ½ tbsp brown sugar
  • ½ vanilla pod(s)

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 40 minutes

Quarter the pears, remove the cores, stems, and blossom ends. Place the quarters in a small saucepan and add about a thumb’s worth of water. Cover and simmer for about 15 minutes. Then drain the water and replace it with the cider. Add the brown sugar and vanilla seeds. Add the scraped vanilla pod and simmer for another 15 minutes. Pour the cider and vanilla syrup over the pear slices occasionally. Serve while still warm with vanilla sauce (I like to stir in the remaining vanilla cider syrup from the pan).
