Brussels sprouts steamed grandma's way

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 kg Brussels sprouts, outer leaves removed, some of the stalk cut off
  • 1 tbsp rapeseed oil
  • 60 g smoked bacon, fat, diced
  • 125 ml water
  • some salt
  • some nutmeg, freshly grated
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp water, cold, for the cornstarch

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 5 minutes

Heat the oil, fry the bacon, and remove it. Briefly heat the Brussels sprouts, then add the water, salt, and nutmeg. Cover and simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes. Then thicken with the cornstarch mixed with the water and season with salt and nutmeg.
