Paprika schnitzel with cheese topping

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 onions
  • 3 red bell peppers
  • 1 tsp thyme, dried
  • 4 turkey schnitzels
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 8 slices of jerked beef
  • salt and pepper
  • 150 g crème fraîche
  • 30 g cheese (Gouda)
  • Parsley
  • Paprika powder
  • 125 ml water

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Cut onions into rings and peppers into strips. Coat schnitzel in flour. Heat oil, fry bacon until crispy, then remove. Fry schnitzel in bacon fat for about 3 minutes per side. Season with salt, pepper, and paprika, then remove. Brown onions in the frying fat, remove one half, add paprika and thyme, fry, and deglaze with 1/8 l water. Sauté for 8-10 minutes. Season to taste. Transfer vegetables to an ovenproof dish. Layer schnitzel and bacon on top. Pour crème fraîche over the top and season. Sprinkle with the remaining onions and cheese. Bake in a preheated oven (180°C fan oven) for 12-15 minutes. Garnish with parsley, if desired. Serve with mashed potatoes.
