Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 350 g mountain cheese or Gruyère, grated
  • Salt
  • 350 g pasta (macaroni)
  • 2 large onions, finely sliced
  • 3 tbsp clarified butter
  • 350 g cream
  • 200 ml milk
  • pepper
  • Butter for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 25 minutes

Cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Preheat the oven to 220°C (top/bottom heat: 200°C). Fry the sliced ​​onions in the clarified butter until golden brown. Mix together the cream and milk and bring to a boil. Add 150g of cheese and stir until melted. Mix the hot pasta with 100g of cheese and season with salt and pepper. Transfer to a buttered baking dish. Pour over the cheese sauce and sprinkle with the remaining cheese. Sprinkle the fried onions over the pasta and heat in the oven for 6-8 minutes until the cheese has melted. A crust should not form. Serve immediately.
