Aluminum foil instead of baking paper: easy to use

You can easily swap the parchment paper for aluminum foil if you don’t have any. If it is a dish that contains a lot of acid or salt, you should still not use it, as the reaction with the foil will make your dish inedible and harmful.

  • As a rule, baking paper can only withstand temperatures of up to 220 degrees Celsius, and aluminum foil can withstand much more.
  • Aluminum foil also has the edge when it comes to reusability.
  • If you are out of parchment paper, you can use aluminum foil instead. For the cake tin, however, we recommend that you grease it beforehand. This way you can easily get the aluminum foil out again later. Or you grease and flour the form, then you can do without both baking paper and aluminum foil.
  • Many deep-frozen foods are also prepared and frozen in aluminum trays. This shows that you don’t need to worry.

 

Aluminum foil in the oven: possibly harmful

Aluminum foil can be harmful if it comes into contact with food.

  • Aluminum foil is considered harmless and may sometimes be swallowed. Nevertheless, the foil transfers minute amounts of aluminum to the food with which it comes into contact.
  • As a rule, however, the guideline values ​​are only exceeded when the food has been wrapped in aluminum foil for several days. A brief contact in the oven is therefore quite harmless. Aluminum is harmless to the body in moderation.
  • However, acidic and salty foods should not be prepared in the oven on aluminum foil. A comparatively large amount of aluminum gets into the food here. You should therefore not replace baking paper with aluminum foil in the long run.
