Apple gratin with caramelized walnuts

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 5 apples
  • 190 g sugar
  • 400 ml apple juice
  • 100 g whipped cream
  • 100 ml milk
  • 100 g cream cheese
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 packet of vanilla sugar
  • 50 g walnuts
  • 2 tbsp schnapps (apple schnapps)
  • ½ lemon(s) juice and grated zest, untreated
  • Fat for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Peel, halve, and core the apples. Bring 100g of sugar, apple juice, and lemon juice to a boil. Cook the apple halves until just tender. Remove, score with a knife, and place in a greased baking dish. Mix the milk, eggs, cream cheese, vanilla sugar, 40g of sugar, and apple schnapps. Pour over the apples and bake in a preheated oven at 175°C for 15 to 20 minutes. Melt the remaining sugar until golden brown. Add the coarsely chopped nuts and toast. Place on greased aluminum foil, spread, and let cool. Sprinkle the apple gratin with the nuts and serve warm.
