Easy to prepare, cold or warm, for brunch or a dessert buffet. Also suitable as a sheet cake. Baking pan: Square, approx. 35×25 cm or 12-hole muffin tin. Prepare the apples and place them in a greased baking pan of your choice, core-side up. Mix the butter and marzipan mixture, slightly melted in the microwave, with the remaining ingredients. Season with honey to taste and the sweetness of the apples. Spread evenly into the core-side down and over the apples. Bake on the lowest rack in a preheated oven at 150°C (300°F) until the filling is a desired color – 20-25 minutes. Serve hot, lukewarm, or cold – or with vanilla sauce or ice cream (walnut or vanilla ice cream also tastes good). Variations: Use chopped walnuts, hazelnuts, peanuts, pecans, or macadamia nuts instead of almonds. Add a little anise or cinnamon powder. – Line muffin tins with puff pastry or shortcrust pastry beforehand, or bake filled apples on yeast, quark, or shortcrust pastry as a sheet cake. – Drizzle some melted dark chocolate over the finished Florentine apples. Tips: – This is ideal for apples that are no longer crisp when fresh. – For beautiful, thin-skinned, unsprayed apples, you can skip peeling; the preparation time is reduced to 8 minutes.
