Ingredients for 5 servings:

  • 400 g flour
  • 20 g yeast
  • 250 ml milk
  • 50 g butter
  • 30 g sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 egg yolk

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 45 minutes

Make a yeast dough from the first 6 ingredients and let it rest for one hour. Shape the dough into balls and form rings from them, letting them rise for about 10 minutes. Then place the rings in boiling water for about 15 seconds, then brush with egg yolk. Sprinkle with poppy seeds, sesame seeds, or coarse salt, if desired. Then bake for about 20 minutes in a preheated oven at medium heat (200°C top/bottom heat).
