- 1 small cucumber(s)
- Salt
- 2 garlic cloves
- 250 g natural yogurt
- 1 tsp vinegar (table vinegar)
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp mixed herbs (frozen)
- pepper, black
- 2 baguettes (together approx. 300 g)
- 1 head of lettuce, the heart of it
- 250 g chicken breast fillet(s), cut into strips
- 1 tsp spice mix for gyros
- 2 tbsp oil (sunflower oil)
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes
Preheat the oven to 200°C (top/bottom heat: 180°C). Wash and peel the cucumber, and finely grate it. Place it in a sieve with a pinch of salt to drain. Peel the garlic cloves and press them through a garlic press into the yogurt. Firmly squeeze the cucumber flesh with your hands and stir it into the yogurt. Mix with table vinegar, olive oil, herbs, and pepper. Cut a deep incision lengthwise, but not all the way through, in the two baguettes and place in the oven for 5 to 8 minutes. Remove the leaves from the lettuce heart, cut into strips, wash, and drain. Season the chicken breast fillet strips with pepper and gyro seasoning and fry in hot sunflower oil for 3 to 4 minutes on all sides. Remove and season with salt. Open the two baguettes, spread with the yogurt sauce, top with lettuce strips, fill with the meat strips, and cover again with a thick layer of yogurt sauce. Serve immediately. Tip: also add diced tomatoes and strips of onion to the baguettes.
