Baked apple with meringue topping

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 large apples
  • 1 lemon(s), juice
  • 150 g marzipan – raw mass
  • 1 ml rum
  • 50 g powdered sugar
  • 75 g candied, chopped fruits
  • 40 g butter, for butter flakes
  • 2 egg whites
  • 140 g sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Wash and dry the apples, then generously core them. Squeeze lemon juice into the opening. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius. Knead the marzipan, rum, powdered sugar, and candied fruit together. Fill the apples with the mixture and place in an ovenproof dish. Sprinkle the butter flakes over the apples. Bake in the oven at 180 degrees Celsius on the middle rack for about 35-40 minutes. Meanwhile, beat the egg whites and sugar until stiff peaks form and spread over the apples. Bake briefly until the meringue is lightly browned. Serve immediately.
