Bread casserole with cherries and vanilla sauce

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 300 g bread(s), stale leftovers
  • 150 g fat
  • 100 g sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 50 g semolina
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 jar cherry(s), drained
  • e.g. breadcrumbs
  • e.g. butter

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Well suited for using up leftover bread

Soak the bread in warm water until thoroughly softened. Whisk the fat, sugar, and eggs in a bowl until fluffy and mix with the cocoa powder. Add the semolina and mix. Squeeze out the excess water from the bread and add it to the pan along with the drained cherries. Mix everything well. Transfer the bread mixture to a greased and breadcrumb-coated baking dish. Sprinkle with breadcrumbs as desired and scatter with butter flakes. Bake for approximately 1 hour in a preheated oven at 200°C (top/bottom heat: 180°C). Serve immediately. Serve with plenty of vanilla sauce (this can also be cold).
