Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 2 eggs
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ liter milk, maybe a little more
  • 5 rolls, stale
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 tbsp butter or less, depending on your taste

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Cooking/baking time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 2 hours 10 minutes

Using up leftover stale bread rolls

Whisk the eggs and salt in the milk. Cut the rolls into small slices and mix well with the egg wash and flour. Then let the rolls soak for at least an hour, mixing them again after about 30 minutes to ensure they are thoroughly soaked. Depending on the size of the roll, you may need to add a little more milk. The mixture should be thoroughly soaked, but not swimming in the milk. Pour the batter into a prepared baking dish and dot with butter. Bake the rolls at 180°C (convection oven) for about 60 minutes. Serve with a mixed salad. Tip: Meat lovers can also add slices of raw Polish knackwurst.
