Broccoli with Mild Ham Sauce

The perfect broccoli with mild ham sauce recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 1 head Fresh broccoli
  • 1 teaspoon Oil or 10 g butter
  • 4 Discs Bacon in strips
  • 1 small Diced onion
  • 1 tablespoon Flour
  • 125 ml Meatsoup
  • 125 ml Milk
  • Pepper from the grinder
  • Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Freshly squeezed lemon juice
  1. Cut away the thick stalk from the broccoli from under the florets. The thick stem can be peeled and used (we didn’t use it). Put the head in a steamer, place in a saucepan and bring to the boil, covered with 2 cups of water. Cook in steam for about 10 minutes.
  2. During this time, fry the bacon strips with onion cubes in the oil (or butter) until they start to brown. Sprinkle with flour, sweat for about 2 minutes and gradually deglaze with stock and milk, stirring constantly. Season with pepper, salt and lemon juice. Then let the sauce simmer gently for 7 minutes.
  3. Lift the broccoli from the steamer onto a platter and serve with the ham sauce covered. I served it with a chicken breast in a fruity sauce with potatoes.
