Cheese Dates Salad with Marinated Oranges

The perfect cheese dates salad with marinated oranges recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

For the marinated oranges

  • 2 Oranges
  • 2 tbsp Bianco balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Powdered sugar
  • Black pepper

For the salad

  • 1 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 150 g Fresh dates
  • 250 g Tilsiter or another mild cheese
  • 2 tbsp White wine vinegar
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 4 tbsp Olive oil
  • Black pepper
  • Salt
  1. Cut away the peel of the oranges with a sharp knife along with the white skin. Then cut the wedges out of the separating membranes, catching the escaping juice. Place the oranges on a plate.
  2. For the marinade, mix vinegar, oil, powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of the orange juice and season the sauce with a little pepper. Drizzle the orange slices with it. Cover with cling film and leave to marinate for about 20 minutes.
  3. Meanwhile, lightly toast the mustard seeds in a dry pan without adding any fat. Stone the dates and cut into strips. Debark the Gruyère and cut into small stalks.
  4. For the sauce, stir together vinegar, another 2 tablespoons of orange juice, mustard, salt, pepper and oil. Mix in the date strips and cheese sticks.
  5. To serve, arrange the cheese salad on plates, garnish with marinated oranges and sprinkle with the roasted mustard seeds.
