Smoky-sweet American barbecue sauce – perfect for spare ribs or pulled pork sandwiches
Mix all ingredients in a saucepan over high heat. As soon as the sauce starts to boil, reduce the heat and simmer uncovered for about 30 minutes. When the sauce has reached the desired consistency, let it cool and pour it into a ketchup dispenser. You can, of course, use fresh ingredients instead of the onion and garlic granules, but this will reduce the shelf life somewhat. I find the sauce very mild with 1 teaspoon of Tabasco and pepper. However, this is how it works best for us. The sauce is absolutely versatile: As an ice cream on spare ribs, it makes a great crust. It also tastes great as a sauce on a pulled pork sandwich or simply with a neck steak and bratwurst. It keeps almost forever in the refrigerator.
