Chicory gratin with cheese and ham

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 chicory, each approx. 200 g
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 200 g cheese (Gouda, medium-aged), thinly sliced
  • 200 g ham, cooked, thinly sliced
  • 75 g whipped cream
  • 2 tbsp breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp butter or margarine
  • ½ bunch chives
  • salt and pepper
  • Fat for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Clean, wash, and drain the chicory. Then halve it and drizzle with lemon juice. Blanch the halves briefly in boiling water. Place the chicory halves in a greased baking dish. Halve the ham and cheese slices and sandwich them between them (finish with cheese). Season the cream with salt and pepper to taste and pour over the vegetables. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs over the top and arrange the butter in small pieces on top. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (convection oven) for about 10-12 minutes. Wash the chives, cut them into rings, and sprinkle them over the finished gratin. Serve immediately. Serve with mashed potatoes and a cold beer.
