Ingredients for 1 servings:
- 500 g wheat flour type 550
- 10 g yeast
- 280 ml water, lukewarm
- 50 g lard
- 1 tbsp, leveled salt
- some lard
- e.g. sesame
- n. B. Poppy
Instructions
Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest time approx. 4 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 5 hours 10 minutes
Place the flour in a bowl. Dissolve the yeast in the water and add to the flour. Stir everything together. Then add the salt and lard and knead everything into a smooth dough. Set aside about 100g of the dough. Shape the remaining dough into a ball, cover, and let it rest for about 3 hours. Cover the set-aside dough and let it rest. Roll the dough out on a floured surface into a thick sheet. Make a hole in the center of the sheet and keep enlarging it until it is the shape of a large donut. Place the dough on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Use the handle of a wooden spoon to make indentations in the dough to create a star shape. Roll the set-aside dough into a thin rope and place it in the indentations in the bread. Cover and let the bread rest for another 60 minutes. Melt some lard and spread it over the bread. Decorate the coated surfaces with sesame and poppy seeds. Of course, you can also use nuts or similar. Bake the bread in an oven preheated to 220°C for about 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 200°C and bake for another 25-30 minutes. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
