Coleslaw is a typical American coleslaw. With its special dressing, it is ideal as a side dish when grilling. Here we show you what you need for a delicious coleslaw and how to prepare it.

Coleslaw – the ingredients for the coleslaw

With coleslaw, you can vary the ingredients a bit. The basic recipe includes white cabbage, red cabbage, and carrots. You can also add onions if you like.

  • For our recipe, you need half a white cabbage, half a red cabbage, and two carrots.
  • The basis for the dressing is 100 grams of mayonnaise.
  • Add a tablespoon and a half of lemon juice.
  • You will also need a tablespoon of white wine vinegar.
  • Two tablespoons of sugar add sweetness.
  • Season with half a teaspoon of coarsely ground black pepper and a quarter of a teaspoon of salt.
  • Tip: If you don’t like sugar, you can use honey instead of sugar to create a slightly sweet note.

American coleslaw – the recipe

The salad is prepared very quickly. For it to taste really good, however, it should be steeped for at least two hours.

  • Wash the vegetables and cut the white cabbage, red cabbage, and carrots into thin strips about three centimeters long.
  • Mix all the other ingredients, i.e. the mayonnaise, lemon juice, vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper, in a large bowl to form an even dressing.
  • Add the coleslaw and mix thoroughly. Cover the bowl and place the coleslaw in the refrigerator for two hours.
  • The coleslaw is then well drained and can be served.
